Growing up in church, I was always taught not to 'take the Lord's name in vain.' When I was younger, this translated to not saying things like 'oh my god!'

Is saying 'OMG' or words like geez still taking the Lord's name in vain? Is using an abbreviation or an acronym the same as actually saying the word?

If our words are a reflection of what is in the heart, then surely a person who knows and loves our Savior cannot utter His name in such a manner.
